Blindness

When I was a little girl, my dad's nickname for me was, "Mrs. MaGoo." He probably coined the name from a popular children's cartoon in the early 50's and '60's called, "Mr. MaGoo," who was a blind, kind, elderly man and was always mistaking something for what he thought was really there. We do the same. Catherine Ryan Hyde wrote a thoughtful book entitled, Have You Seen Luis Velez?  about a teenage boy who befriends and helps a 92-year-old woman. It really made me think about the things we see and the things we do not see, both as a sighted person and one who is blind. Have You Seen Luis Velez? sends the message that "insight" often takes effort but is a most valuable gift.

Thanks for listening.
