Reinvention

I grew up always wanting to be liked and accepted. It was hard for me to understand how someone got the courage to disagree with another's opinion or suggest what they wanted to do instead of going along with the crowd. I never wanted to risk doing those things because I wanted to be liked. During my doctoral studies, we were given an assignment to write a growth plan, giving a timeline, points of actions, resources needed, outcomes defined. I chose my desired growth was to become someone who was willing to speak up for my own opinion. I worked hard at that assignment and I can tell you today, I made a change in myself. And guess what? I don't think that the new "me," so to speak, has become any less liked than before I gained that skill. That is one of my reinvention stories.

Thanks for listening.
