Will You Milk the Cow?

Kris Meyer

I have a three-legged milking stool that used to belong to my husband, Donnie's dad or grandfather. It's a treasure to me because it reminds me of the stories shared by my parents and father-in-law of those days on the farm, milking the cows by hand. It was a lot of work. Milking cows today is still a lot of work, but in a different way.

We are doing a lot of mental work lately as we sort through the news reports and learn to deal with our reactions to them that so often involve fear or sadness to  changes that are sending us into so much unknown, no matter what political lens you choose. There was always unknown on the farms long ago, but the physical work perhaps was a way they could deal with it. It was something they could do. Could we, too, be like those farmers of long ago and figure out how we can navigate this time of unknown by doing something?

Thanks for listening.
