What Do You Need to Change?

Kris Meyer

For many years I taught piano based on the Suzuki Method, developed by Shinichi Suzuki. Its basis is repetition with little steps at a time. The process allows the learner to build one skill at a time by repeating and repeating the step until it is mastered. The beautiful thing that I learned in studying the Suzuki Method is that it is based on love of the child first because then you have patience.

This process came to mind when I reflected upon today's podcast on changing habits. When choosing a habit we want to change, it is important to love ourselves, so we can be patient in the process to change. When we try and try to change something in ourselves, it can be easy to see ourselves as a failure when we continue to miss the goal, but that only decreases our ability to change. Start by giving yourself a bit of love, acknowledge that change takes time...and then start the journey.

Thanks for listening.
